The Man Who Pushed America to War

The Extraordinary Life, Adventures and Obsessions of Ahmad Chalabi

Aram Roston
March 2008     ISBN: 1568583532

It would be difficult to overestimate the influence that Ahmad Chalabi has had on recent international events. Born into a family of privilege, his comfortable existence as a boy in Iraq was abruptly and violently disrupted by the 1958 revolutionary coup, which sent him into a nomadic, if prosperous, life abroad. Yet Chalabi longed to restore his family’s prominence in Iraq and make a triumphant return to his homeland. It was this singular obsession that would eventually launch him into exclusive political circles and the coveted role of friend and confidant of the United States government.

This extraordinary investigative biography tells the full story of the man who steered the United States toward its fateful position in Iraq.

What readers are saying

"The Man Who Pushed America to War" is a fascinating study of how the oleaginous former Iraqi exile leader separated the CIA and the Pentagon from hundreds of millions of dollars and conned credulous officials and reporters into believing that Saddam Hussein was not just armed with chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, but bankrolling al Qaeda. Not to be missed is a fascinating chapter on the secret relationship of Chalabi, the Bush administration's weapon of mass deception, with Iran, whom he is suspected of warning that the United States was eavesdropping on its communications. But there's much, much more. Not to be missed.
--Jeff Stein, Congressional Quarterly Inc.
